Traditionally made, 22K solid interwoven gold is applied to silver.
The production technique used is very special and rarely seen. It is 100% hand made by master artisans in Trabzon - a city on the shores of the Black Sea.
The fine gold or sterling silver is melted and formed into sticks. Then, they are drawn to 110 micron (1.1mm) and finally to 30 micron(0.3mm = 1/85 inch).
These thin gold and silver wires are given to the weaver ladies in 10-15 gr. lots each. Using a special kind of crochet hook, weavers make 5, 7, 11, 15, 17 rows (width) of weave.
Weaving is entirely hand crafted and there is no machine involved at any stage. Weaving a bracelet takes about 12 days. The whole set (necklace, bracelet and earrings) of wickerwork jewelry is completed in about 40 days.
The weaving art is inherited from mother to daughter. A woman has to be trained for more than a year to learn this jewelry making art. There are only around 800 women who know how to do the wickerwork technique.
